Nancy Ann Copley Pruitt, 69, of Cassopolis, departed this life suddenly Friday evening, April 29, 2016, in the peace and comfort of her family’s presence.

She was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Calvin Township, Michigan to Arthur and Eliza (Goins) Gillam, the youngest of ten children. She graduated high school in 1965 and married Charles Copley in 1966. Nancy worked at Nibco in Elkhart briefly until she started having children in 1967. Nancy was a stay at home Mom for many years until she returned to work in 1990. She worked as a housekeeper at Comfort Suites for 15 years, retiring in 2005. She married Dennis Earl Pruitt Oct. 13, 2010 in Cassopolis, Michigan. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Gilliam, Rosemary Seeney; five brothers, Arthur Gillam, Jr., Paul Gillam, Duane Gilliam, Ace Gillam, Leon Gilliam; and twin great-grandsons, Karson Beathea and Karter Beathea.

Nancy loved her chocolate, her crossword puzzles, her soap operas, and the Sci-Fi channel. She lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and family gatherings. She volunteered at the Salvation Army in Goshen to work with senior citizens.

Nancy will be greatly missed by family and friends. Left to honor her and remember her love are her husband, Dennis Pruitt of Cassopolis; four daughters, Elizabeth Beathea of Cassopolis, Dawn (Willie) Ballard of Elkhart, Indiana, Robin DeWalt of Cassopolis, Brittney Plummer of South Bend, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Kandice McKnight of South Bend, Indiana, Jennifer (Donnie) Walker of Ferndale, Michigan, J.J. Beathea of Cassopolis, Audrye (Tan) Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan, Taira (Raymond) Nelson of Elkhart, Indiana, Tiffany Williams of Mesa, Arizona, Tevin Mixon of Cassopolis, Layah Powell; two beloved great grandchildren, Kyndra King and Memphis Smith, with three more on the way; one sister, Grace Wares of Otsego, Michigan; one brother, Donald Gilliam of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather from 3 until 5 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, for a time of sharing memories and telling stories in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Mrs. Copley’s remains will be laid to rest beside her sister Patricia Gilliam in Bethel Cemetery in Calvin Township, Michigan.
