Dowagiac softball sweeps Otsego; baseball drops two

OTSEGO — The Dowagiac softball and baseball teams had very different results at Otsego in Wolverine Conference play Friday.

The Chieftain softball team, who had dropped three of its last four games, swept the Bulldogs 4-0 and 11.

The Dowagiac baseball team, which has lost seven straight, were swept by Otsego 4-1 and 9-5.

Visiting Dowagiac used great pitching to earn a pair of non-divisional wins Friday against the Bulldogs.

Taylor Hulett picked up the win in both ends of the doubleheader as she tossed a three-hitter in the opening win with eight strikeouts and just two walks.

In the second game she worked the first three innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Soderbloom worked the final two innings and struck out four.

The Chieftains (13-4) had 13 hits in the opener, including two each by Marissa Dodd, Alyssa Allen and Kailey Fear. Allen doubled twice for Dowagiac, which also got a double from Megan Soderbloom.

Mickie Kiggins was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Dowagiac had 15 more hits in the nightcap, led by Dodd, who was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Soderbloom was 3-for-3 with a double, while Hulett, Kiggins and Allen all had two hits. Hulett doubled and Allen drove in three runs.

Dowagiac baseball

Mistakes continue to haunt the Chieftain baseball team this season.

Dowagiac gave up just one earned run in the opening game against the Bulldogs as it commented a pair of errors.

The Chieftains outhit Otsego 6-3 as Brenden Dudley was 2-for-3 with a double, while Collin Hassle also had two hits and Austin Jones doubled.

Dowagiac gave up four more unearned runs in the second game.

The Chieftains managed just six hits, including two by Nick Foote.
