Area golfers tackle Point O’Woods today

The Dowagiac golf team is hoping to rebound from its worst finish of the year at the Point O’Wood Invitational today.

The Chieftains finished 10th at the Wolverine Conference Jamboree hosted by South Haven at Hawks Head Thursday.

Defending champion Otsego continued to pull away from the field as it shot 149 to win the jamboree.

Edwardsburg was fourth with a 179 while Dowagiac was a distant 10th with a 198.

David Brogan shot 45 to lead the Chieftains.

Carter Goodson finished with a 42 for the Eddies.

At the Point O’Woods Golf & Country Club near Benton Harbor today, Dowagiac will play in the Woods Division along with Benton Harbor, Big Rapids, Bridgman, Coloma, Eau Claire, Kalamazoo Christian, Kalamazoo Hackett, Lake Michigan Catholic, Lawton and New Buffalo.

Niles will play in the Point Division with Otsego, Paw Paw, South Haven, Lakeshore, St. Joseph, Sturgis, Three Rivers and Vicksburgs.

Golfers were expected to tee off beginning at 10 a.m.

The Wolverine Conference is back in action Thursday as Three Rivers hosts the next jamboree.

Dowagiac will host the lead May 13 at Hampshire Country Club.
