The Edwardsburg girls tennis team kept its focus and didn’t overlook a struggling Dowagiac squad in Wolverine Conference South Division action on Wednesday.

In a match that took an hour and a half, the Eddies blanked the Chieftains, 8-0, to improve to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the division.

“I always tell our kids to work on the individual parts of their game,” said Edwardsburg girls tennis coach Kim Bartz. “We came out here and gave our best effort.”

Edwardsburg took a 1-0 lead before the match even started as Lexy Deak won by forfeit at No. 3 singles.

What followed were straight set wins by No. 1 singles player Shania Ahmed (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 singles player Hannah Ahmed (6-1, 6-0), No. 4 singles player Morgan Rockhill (6-1, 6-0), the No. 1 doubles team of Zoe Laubach and Malary Overberghe (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 doubles team of Frankie Badur and Jena Holst (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 doubles team of Olivia Wagner and Breanna Webb (6-0, 6-1) and the No. 4 doubles team of Natalie Kessler and Sarah Scheretie (6-0, 6-0).
