On Saturday, April 9, Niles Charter Township held its first (as far as records can confirm) township cleanup day. Thanks to the generosity of the Southeast Berrien County Landfill, three dumpsters were brought onto the township hall property at 320 Bell Road so that residents of the township would have access to them in order to assist with cleaning up their properties.

In spite of the weather, we managed to completely fill two dumpsters. Thanks to Township Trustees Dick Noble, Richard Cooper and Herschel Hoese for being present on Saturday to assist with this project as well as to Jim Stover, supervisor and Jim Ringler, treasurer. Their continued commitment to make Niles Charter Township a safe and pleasant place to live is truly appreciated. Thanks also to Larry and Sonny of the Southeast Berrien County Landfill who made sure the dumpsters were delivered and picked up and stopped by during the collection to ensure that things were running smoothly. A special “shout-out” to Larry for bringing the third dumpster as the other two were filling so quickly.

The Niles Daily Star did a great job of announcing this event and provided details in their article. Without their assistance in getting the word out, we would have been less successful.

Last, but not least, a big thank you to the residents who took advantage of this opportunity. The weather was certainly not conducive to loading and unloading unwanted items, but those that managed showed how much they care about their properties.
