Even with an 18-month-old daughter at home and a growing business to attend to, Becky Brown still finds time to give back to the greater Niles community.

Brown, a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Niles, was one of many individuals, businesses and/or organizations recognized Tuesday at the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards banquet.

She was named the chamber’s volunteer of the year.

“I was very honored to receive this award for helping the community,” she said. “I think it is very important to give back to a community that supports me and my business and supports me and my family.”

Brown volunteers in many capacities and for many organizations, including as an ambassador for the chamber of commerce, vice president of Niles Young Leaders, a board member of the Berrien County Civitan Club, a member of the Edwardsburg Lioness Club, a member of Premier Women’s Network and president of the Niles Service League.

How does she find the time?

“I have a very good support structure,” she said. “I find the time to volunteer because I live and own a business in Niles so I think it is important to give back.”

Brown also said she was excited to see the Niles Service League receive the chamber’s award for service organization of the year.

“I don’t think a lot of people know about it,” she said. “Last year we gave over $10,000 away in scholarships and camperships. This year we are doing more than that.”

The chamber’s business of the year award went to one of Niles’ most popular establishments — Wonderland Cinema.

Owner Carol Moore said while she is honored to receive the award, the recognition should go to the Niles community, which has been so supportive of Wonderland Cinema over the years.

“Niles has always been so good to us,” she said. “The city is fantastic to work with and has always been there for anything we might need. The actual people who live and work in Niles and make it such a great place are the people who deserve this.”

Also awarded Tuesday were:

• Industry of the year — NCP Coatings, of Niles

• Outstanding leader — Mark Weber, CEO of Niles-Buchanan YMCA

• Lifetime achievement — Bob Harrison, former president of Lake Michigan College

• Lifetime achievement — East Main Gardens, of Niles

• Ambassador of the year — Marci Taylor, of WSMK and WNIL radio stations

• Niles Cares Initiative — Summer My Way
