Tennis roundup: Brandywine defeats crosstown rival Niles

Crosstown rivals Niles and Brandywine squared off in a non-conference tennis match under perfect conditions Monday.

The undefeated visiting Bobcats swept the singles flights en route to a 7-1 victory over the winless Vikings.

Brandywine dominated the singles competition, losing just 12 games along the way.

While Rachael Szilagyi and Alyssa Bolen were able to blank Hannah Davis and Jessica Akey at No. 1 doubles, the remaining three flights were competive.

Niles picked up its lone win of the day at No. 4 doubles where Brooke Sinner and Karla Espinoza defeated Brandywine’s Olivia Thomas and Lauren Srmek 6-3 and 6-2.

“Just a great effort by all eight flights,” Brandywine coach Joe Marazita said. “Rachael and Alyssa cruised and I thought Shaylee was very consistent in gaining her win.”
