Batter sizzled and syrup flowed within the Dowagiac Union High School cafeteria Saturday, as the Dowagiac Optimist Club hosted its annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser that morning.

Members of the local service organization cooked up and served pancakes and sausage to visitors to the high school during a busy day for high school athletics. More than 150 people attended the breakfast.

The club expects to bring in more than $2,000 through ticket sales, donations and ad sales through the fundraiser, with money going toward the organization’s Halloween Parade in October as well as for a scholarship for a graduating senior in May.
