Three Cass County residents are in custody following a pair of drug-related searches in the Cassopolis area by county authorities Thursday.

A Dowagiac woman, 38-year-old Tarrah Cooper, was arraigned Friday in Cass County Court in connection with one of the incidents, where she was charged with a single count of possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. She is currently being held on $50,000 bond or surety.

According to a release from the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, Cooper’s arrest followed a traffic stop conducted Thursday on M-62 near Twin Lakes Road in LaGrange Township, after detectives with the task force observed a suspicious vehicle traveling down the highway. A deputy with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office performed the stop.

Upon making contact with the vehicle, the officer was told by the vehicle’s passenger, Cooper, that she had two warrants out for her arrest. A search of her person found she was in possession of small Ziploc bag of methamphetamine, along with two controlled prescription drugs she lacked a prescription for.

The officer took Cooper into custody at the scene. Authorities allowed the driver of the vehicle was allowed to leave.

A pair of siblings, 48-year-old Lisa Herthoge, of Cassopolis, and 43-year-old Brian Herthoge, no current residence, was arraigned in connection to the second incident in court Friday as well, both being charged with counts of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house. Both are held on $50,000 bond or surety.

According to police, the pair was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 6400 block of Library Road in Jefferson Township by the drug enforcement team Thursday, on suspicions that methamphetamine was being used at the household.

Authorities detained Lisa Herthoge while she exited the home’s garage during the search. When police searched the structure, they discovered her brother Brian hiding under a vehicle, who dropped a small Ziploc containing methamphetamine while being led out of the garage.

A further search of the garage found meth paraphernalia in and around a van parked inside. A sweep of the main residence uncovered additional paraphernalia in one of the home’s back bedrooms.

All three suspects are due to appear again in court at 1:30 a.m. April 28.
