Edwardsburg roundup: Eddies sweep Berrien, split with Lancers

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Edwardsburg baseball team finally got back on the field as it swept  a non-league doubleheader from host Berrien Springs Tuesday.

The Eddies were originally supposed to open the home portion of their 2016 campaign against South Bend Clay Monday, but the field was not ready for play due to snow and heavy rain over the weekend.

Edwardsburg (2-0) took the opening game 4-2 and then completed the sweep with a 5-4 win.

Jake Robinson and Jacob Kanaby were the winning pitchers for the Eddies against the former Wolverine Conference school.

Chris Griffin had a pair of doubles for the Eddies, who also got a double from Damion Pompey.

In the nightcap, Edwardsburg was led by Chase Tarwacki, who had a two-run single in the second inning as the Eddies erased a 4-0 deficit with five runs.

STEVENSVILLE — Visiting Edwardsburg split a pair of non-conference softball games with Lakeshore Tuesday.

The Lancers opened their new stadium with a 13-3 win over the Eddies, who bounced back in the nightcap to win 17-4.

Ali Strycker took the loss in the opening game, while Ashley Pion was the winner in the nightcap.

Layne Stinnett had a home run for Edwardsburg in the opener, which finished with only two hits.

Stinnett had three hits and three RBIs in the second game, while Kaylee Ryker singled twice, doubled and drove in four runs.

The Eddies also got two hits and an RBI from Rileigh Disher and Lexi Clark. Michaela Ritschard finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The Eddies are 1-1 overall.
