Cass County COA to host MS special program

CASSOPOLIS — Tuesday, April 19, the Cass County COA will host neurologist Dr. Michael Englert for a special program about multiple sclerosis (MS). He will address updates on MS treatment, current studies, medications and more.

Englert is a neurologist with South Bend Neurology in Mishawaka. Established in 1978, the practice provides patients with comprehensive testing and treatment for MS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, stroke and other neurological diseases.

DASAS to host fundraiser at Lindy’s Wednesday

DOWAGIAC — Domestic and Sexual Abuse Services will host its next “dine for dollars” fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lindy’s Restaurant in Dowagiac.

During that time period, 20 percent of all customer bills at the restaurant will go toward DASAS, which uses funds from the event to support survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence as well as their children.

Lindy’s is located at 57983 M-62, Dowagiac.

 

Climate change to be discussed at upcoming Democrat event

CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Democrats’ next “Third Thursday” event will be at 6 p.m. April 21, at the party headquarters, 804 E. State St., Cassopolis.

Local climate change advocate Jim Bronke will discuss issues relating to the environment and the threat it faces. The presentation will include a brief history of planet Earth, current climate conditions and how they relate to the past, where these conditions are heading, the consequences of these conditions, and what humankind can do.

This and other Cass County Democrat events are free and open to the public.

 

Cassopolis, Wayne Township weather horns to activate for statewide test

CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that in cooperation with the Severe Weather Awareness Week, the Cass County 911 Center will be testing weather warning sirens located in the Village of Cassopolis and Wayne Township. Residents in these locations should expect to hear the weather siren to be set off at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday

Residents of Cass County outside Cassopolis and Wayne Township may hear the weather sirens set off, as many agencies are participating in this event. Weather sirens are independently controlled in many jurisdictions.

In the event of severe weather Wednesday, the 2016 Statewide Tornado Drill will occur at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
