Athlete Showcase: Brandywine’s Mia Stella

Mia Stella is a junior on the Brandywine soccer team.

 

What has been one of your greatest

accomplishments as an athlete?

MS: My biggest accomplishment as an athlete is making it to the final 4 for basketball this year.

What has been one of your biggest

disappointments as an athlete?

MS:  My biggest disappointment as an athlete is when we lost our district final game against LMC last season.

What has been a hardship in your life?

MS:  One hardship in my life is the pressure I put on myself when I don’t perform to my best ability.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

MS:  My hero is my dad! He has always been there for me when I need someone and he is always supporting me and pushing me to be the best I can be.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

MS:  I am the most nervous before my games,  but once the game gets going I am fine.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

MS:  One of my most embarrassing athletic moments I have had is one time I had an open shot on goal and completely missed.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

MS:  When I workout/train I’m never alone. I am always with my friends and we work out with our trainer Marla Peak at Peak fast.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

MS:  If I didn’t play the sports I do I would want to either play softball or run track.

Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?

MS:  It’s hard to pick just one biggest fan of mine I have a lot of people who support me. But I would have to say my mom.

How would you give away $50,000?

MS:  If I could give away $50,000 I would give it to multiple different cancer research organizations because a lot of my loved ones have survived or died from cancer.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

MS:  If I could be a head coach of a team for a year I would probably be a volunteer coach for a kids soccer team.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

MS:  If I didn’t play sports I would be a coach.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

MS:  The most challenging thing for me to do in soccer is to juggle the soccer ball.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

MS:  If I could change one rule it would be the offsides rule.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

MS:  The best compliment I have received is that even though I am small I am a tough player.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

MS:  One of the scariest things I have had to do is have surgery on my bone spurs on both of my heels. I am happy I did it because now I’m not in pain and I can wear all different shoes.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

MS:  The last thing I saw someone do that impressed me was how hard my whole basketball team worked to make it to state this year.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

MS:  My favorite hobby is playing sports! I love to play sports because I am a competitive person, it keeps me in shape and gives me something to do other than just go to school.

MS:  One word I would use to describe myself is selfless.
