Dowagiac track teams swept

The Dowagiac boys and girls track teams were swept by visiting Allegan in the season and Wolverine Conference opener Tuesday.

The girls team dropped a 76-53 decision to the Tigers despite Nijah Russell winning three events and Emily Dodd a pair of races.

Russell won the 100- and 200-meters and was part of Dowagiac’s winning 400-meter relay team along with Kazmere Williams, Al’dreoanna Henderson and Tania Williams.

Dodd won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races,

The Chieftain boys team fell to Allegan 81-55.

Leroy Lewis and Kevin Whitaker were multiple winners for Dowagiac.

Lewis won the high jump and was part of the 800-meter relay team with Donald Brooks, Ronnie Payne and Kristian Horton. Whitaker won both hurdles.
