Edwardsburg potted its first three goals in the first six minutes of the match and went on to blank Cassopolis 8-0 in girls high school soccer Monday.

The match was halted at halftime because of the mercy rule.

Noelle Kraus cut through the chill by scoring the first two Eddie goals and later picked up a pair of assists in helping her team move to 1-0 while sending the Rangers to 0-3 on the 2016 season.

After scrimmaging against Lakeshore and Michigan Lutheran Saturday, the Eddies dominated play and used many combinations of players in topping an inexperienced Cassopolis squad.

“We cleaned some things up and got some girls in,” Edwardsburg coach Brett Harring said.

Six other players — Autumn Axline, Raegan Blue, Megan Evans, Gabi Fonseca, Makayla Shaw and McKenna Tinkham — netted goals for the Eddies Monday.

Hailee Hebard, Kraus and Emily Lopez all got a chance to play in goal though none of them faced a shot.

“We’re a very, very new team,” Rangers coach Emily Quinn said. “My whole offense has never played the game before this season. Maybe going against a team as good as Edwardsburg shook the confidence of some of the girls because their energy seemed a little bit low today. We’re improving every week.”

Quinn has been using the players with the most experience on defense.

“We need to defend before we can go on the offensive play,” Quinn said.
