Brandywine sweeps River Valley at Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME — The Brandywine baseball team opened the 2016 season with a sweep of River Valley at Notre Dame’s Eck Stadium Monday night.

The Bobcats (2-0) defeated the Mustangs (0-2) 11-1 and 10-0. Both games lasted just five innings.

Mark Conrad and Zach Grishaber combined on a no-hitter in the nigthtcap, with seven strikeouts and four walks. Conrad worked the first three innings to pick up the victory.

Vinny Peel doubled and drove in two runs, while Hunter Janowiak was 2-for-2 as Brandywine finished with six hits.

In the opener, Toby Fox earned the victory while Chandler Plew and Austin Balos also saw time on the mound. They combined on a three-hitter.

Janowiak and Plew were both 2-for-3 with a double for the Bobcats, who also got a double from Fox.

 

Brandywine softball

Chelsie Luczkowski went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as Brandywine earned a split with visiting Hartford in non-conference softball Monday.

The Bobcats dropped an 8-4 decision to the Indians in the opener despite Makenna Hartline going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Morgan Crocker picked up the win and hit a home run in a game that was shortened by darkness.

Crocker also had a double in the opening game, while Kiya Lintz doubled in the nightcap.
