Dowagiac blanks Gobles, falls to South Haven

SOUTH HAVEN — The Dowagiac varsity baseball team opened the season with a split at the South Haven Invitational Saturday.

The Chieftains (1-1) defeated Gobles 11-0 in five innings, but dropped a 7-3 decision to host South Haven.

Brenden Dudley worked two plus innings, allowing two hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Mack Charles also worked two plus innings, giving up two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Dudley helped his own cause at the plate with two hits, including a double and four RBIs. Walker also had two hits, while Nick Foote drove in three runs.

In the second game, Dowagiac finished with seven hits. Eric Walker was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Dudley was 2-for-3 with and RBI. Elijah Williams and Charles also doubled.

Adrien Bucha-Moore took the loss. Nick Foote and Chance Wernlund also took the hill for the Chieftains.

Danny Dopp earned the victory with relief help from Casey Cooper.
