Brett Johnathan Gilpin, 25, formerly of Edwardsburg, was arrested by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team Thursday, March 17.

Gilpin, a 2009 Brandywine graduate, was arraigned on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony; operating while intoxicated and moving violation causing death.

He is currently lodged in the Cass County Jail, according to a press release from police.

The arrest comes 10 months after the Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department responded to Garver Lake Road south of U.S. 12 in reference to a fatal traffic accident on May 15. Police found that a 77-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on Garver Lake Road.
