John Walter Konkey, 65, of Eau Claire, Michigan died on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Eau Claire Residence. His death was unexpected, but due to natural causes.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1950, in Niles, Michigan, to Joseph Anthony and Donnis Jeanette (Rollf) Konkey. He attended Berrien Springs schools, and has lived in this area all of his life. He was formerly a delivery agent for the Niles Daily Star.
John was raised in the Catholic Church. He enjoyed completing word puzzles, playing cards – especially cribbage, and collecting quarters. He was a great fan of the actor John Wayne and the musician Johnny Cash. He was diligent about recycling cans, and often rode his bicycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his step-mother, Alice Carol Konkey, and his sister, Patricia Miller.
Surviving family includes his siblings, Sandy ( and Michael) Bair of Niles, Jack Lucker, Jr. of Dayton, Michigan, Karen (Morgan) Griffith of Vevay, Indiana, and Robin Kline of Mobile, Alabama; step-father, Jack Lucker, Sr. of Dayton; 12 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Committal Rite for John Konkey will be read at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery in Niles by the Rev. Alphonse Savarimuthu, MSFS of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
