Jay’s Lounge broken into, three arrested

Three people were arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly breaking into a Niles bar.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:32 a.m. at Jay’s Lounge in the 3000 block of South 11th Street in Niles Township.

Officers from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police were dispatched to the business after an alarm was activated.

Police arrived to find that forced entry had been made into the business.

Three people were arrested at the scene:

• Scott William Kopis, 26, of Elburn, Illinois

• Andrew Patrick Koehler, 25, of Auburn

• Michael John Acker, 26, of Coloma

All three are facing charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny.

Kopis is also facing a charge of resisting and obstructing police. Acker is facing an additional charge of disturbing the peace.

The suspects were lodged at the Berrien County Jail awaiting arraignment in Berrien County Trial Court.
