COA keeps community active with events, activities

The Cass County COA has planned a number of activities for this week at its Dowagiac location, Front Street Crossing, at 227 S. Front St.

 

Tuesday, March 8

A Matter of Balance

10 a.m. to noon

This four-week program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity level of older adults who have this concern. It will include group discussion, problem solving, sharing practical solutions and exercise training. Advanced registration is required.

 

Wednesday, March 9

Cardio challenge

8 to 8:45 a.m.

This low-impact, high-energy class will challenge participants’ entire bodies with cardio, strength training and balance exercises. Mat exercises are also incorporated for a well-rounded workout. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

 

Vim and vigor transitions

9 to 9:45 a.m.

This class begins with a stand-up energizing aerobic workout and ends with a chair cool down and stretch. The focus is on heart health, strength, flexibility and balance. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

 

S.E.A.T. (Sit, Exercise, and Tone) 

10 to 10:45 a.m.

This chair-based class is great for anyone concerned with balance and stability. The focus is on maintaining flexibility and strength. Cost is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

 

Tai chi

11 a.m.

Guests can improve their posture, strength of hips, thighs and core with this gentle mind body exercise. This program is good for arthritis, blood pressure and sense of well-being. Cost is $20 per month.

 

Bingo

12:45 p.m.

Follow the lunch hour by playing for fun and prizes. Cost is $2.25.

 

Thursday, March 10

Euchre Club

1 p.m.

Euchre is one of the most popular card clubs.

 

Miniature Gardens 101

1-3 p.m.

Back by growing demand! Guests can make their very own tiny garden to enjoy all winter long. Attendees can bring their own container and the COA will provide soil, plants, rocks, and a few tiny items. Advanced registration is required; $10 fee per garden.
