All profits from this year’s evening of fun and fundraising goes to send local youth to UMC camps this summer. Last year’s event raised in excess of $2,700.

The meal will consist of chili, baked potato, corn bread, dessert and a beverage. Hot dogs will also be available. Tickets are $6 for adults, while children ages 10 and under eat free.

David Haase, pastor at Riverside United Methodist Church, will serve as auctioneer for the live auction, which will start at 7 p.m. Among items to be auctioned are several collector’s edition knives, a giant cast-iron fry pan manufactured by Marcellus Metalcasters, small appliances, a pair of downhill skis, several hand-crafted items and a trailer load of mixed hardwood — cut, split and delivered by the Wakelee Woodcutters.

To move things along, some items will be sold by silent auction, so guests are invited to arrive early to examine the merchandise and place silent auction bids.

Cook-off contestants must pre-register and have a crock-pot of chili in place for tasting by an independent panel of judges by 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the three favorite chili recipes and all contestants will receive recognition.

To sign up or for more information, call event co-chairs Charlie and Nancy Goodrich (269) 423-7547). Tickets may be purchased from a member of the congregation or at the door the night of the cook-off.

The church is located three miles west of M-40 at 15921 Dutch Settlement St., Marcellus.
