Helen May Stewart Hebner, 102, of Dowagiac, Michigan died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at her home following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 27, 1913, in South Bend to Howard E. and Sophia M. (Hall) Morrison.

Helen attended Summit Church in Niles Michigan and enjoyed crocheting and cooking for family get-togethers. She also appreciated antiques and looking for depression glass pieces.

On Dec. 31, 1931, in Roseland, Indiana, Helen married Emil Stewart with whom she celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary, before his death on Aug. 29, 1983. Helen then married Fred Hebner on June 4, 1988, he preceded her in death in 1995.

Surviving family includes sons Robert Stewart, Glenn (Shirley) Stewart of Niles and William Stewart of Dowagiac; seven grandchildren, Kathleen (Jeff) Clegg of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Marcia (Keith) Cross of Daggett, Michigan, Linda (Kevin) Avery of Onarga, Illinois, David Stewart of Saint Louis, Missouri, Scott (Tami) Stewart of Dowagiac, Stephanie (Adam) Knepple of Cassopolis and Kimberly (Stephen) Morris of South Bend; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Benjamin of Niles and a sister, Edie O’Konski of Dowagiac. Also surviving are Helen’s step children, Martha Wray of Niles, Sam (Ilah) Hebner of Plymouth, Indiana, Bertha (Frank Halik) Hamann and John (Kate) Hebner, both of Berrien Springs, Michigan and Louise (Richard) Bookwalter of Niles along with 15 step-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by husband Emil Stewart and husband Fred Hebner, two daughters-in-law, Sally Stewart and Donna Stewart, step-son Carl Hebner and his wife Emma Jean and four step-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Helen May Stewart Hebner will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Summit Church (1700 West River Road in Niles) with Rev. Daniel Miller of the church officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills, Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the church one hour prior to services on Friday. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to Summit Church.
