Bob Rhoa, co-founder and CEO of Lake Michigan Mailers, has been appointed to the Southwestern Michigan College Foundation Board by the Board of Trustees.

A non-profit, tax-exempt corporation established in 1971, the foundation assists SMC students who desire to enhance their lives through education and training.

The foundation supports the college in areas not funded through taxes, tuition and grants.

Rhoa will serve a three-year term ending in 2019.

He and his wife, Karen, founded the company in the basement of their St. Joseph home in 1976.

Today, Lake Michigan Mailers’ 50 full- and part-time employees serve 800 businesses in 21 Michigan and Indiana counties from processing centers in Kalamazoo and South Bend, Ind.

He has also served as a board member for Crime Stoppers of Michiana and Crime Stoppers of Berrien County.

“I am passionate about all aspects of business,” Rhoa said. “I enjoy following the stock market and managing Lake Michigan Mailers’ profit-sharing and 401(k) plan. I’m strongly committed to move the next generation toward entrepreneurship. Our country needs new business start-ups. Achieving that goal requires well-educated men and women with vision, determination and the passion only youth provides.”
