Leo Martinez, 65, of Niles, formerly of Coldwater, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following an illness.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas to the late Leo and Minnie Martinez.

Leo retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation after 25 years of dedicated service. On Feb. 23, 2008, Leo married Janet K. Pitcher. In his younger years, Leo enjoyed playing baseball, football and hunting. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Leo also loved to go dancing with Janet and enjoyed always looking his best! He was a man of strong faith and had followed the Catholic teachings his entire life. Leo had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Lydia, Mary, Leicha and Rachel Martinez and two brothers, Leo and Santos Martinez.

Leo is survived by his wife Janet Martinez of Niles, two sons, Robert Martinez of Texas and Leo (Tammy) Martinez of Bronson, Michigan, a daughter, Lisa Martinez of Texas, a step-daughter, Wendy (David) Singer of Nevada, a step-son Brian (Sandy) McClane of Louisiana, a sister, Sylvia (Leo) Carrion of Coldwater, Michigan, three grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, a great-grandchild and five step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles. A time of visitation will begin on Monday at 4 p.m. with until the time of the service.
