Mara Nelson is a senior on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

MN: One of my greatest accomplishments is getting All-Wolverine Conference for soccer.

What has been a hardship in your life?

MN: Losing my 18-year-old cousin on Jan. 22.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

MN: The beginning of the game, before tipoff or kickoff.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

MN: An embarrassing athletic moment was the girls basketball losing streak.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

MN: When working out by myself, I like to run, do agility as well as work on my legs.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

MN: Cross country.

Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?

MN: My biggest fans are my parents, because they make it to all of my games.

How would you give away $50,000?

MN: If I had to giveaway $50,000, I would give it to my school to improve and build a soccer stadium.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

MN: I would work, a lot.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

MN: The most challenging thing for me to do in any sport is see the disappointment in my teammates’ faces if we lose.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

MN: If I could change one rule about soccer it would be that you can shove people and knock them down with your hands.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

MN: Good pass. Good shot.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

MN: Fishing. It’s quiet.
