A barn fire on Deerfield Lane in Edwardsburg resulted in the loss of the pole barn and several goats Monday.
According to Edwardsburg Fire Department Chief Bruce Stack, his department was called just before 2 a.m. to the 27000 block of Deerfield Lane for a fully engulfed barn fire with animals inside.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a 24-by-44 foot pole barn with a roof that had already collapsed. The fire went unnoticed until the fire burned through the roof and was visible due to the distance from the house.
The cause of the fire is unknown and five goats were lost in the fire.
Edwardsburg was assisted at the scene by the Cassopolis, Howard Township and Penn Township fire departments.
There were no other injuries and the fire remains under investigation.
