MENDON — Brandywine saw its 2015-16 dual wrestling season come to a close Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the semifinals of the MHSAA Division 4 Mendon Regional.

The Bobcats lost 64-18 to No. 3-ranked Decatur.

Winners for Brandywine (29-10) were senior Jesse Lochmondy (pin at 135 pounds), freshman Garrett Lerner (pin at 160) and junior Sam Burge (pin at 189).

Bobcats coach Rex Pomranka talked about the strides made by all his wrestlers during the season.

“Everybody on the team made improvement — from our top guys to our newbies,” Pomranka said.

One example of a newcomer coming a long way was  freshman Searra Inman (103).

“Earlier in the year, (Decatur freshman Dylan Elmore) stuck her,” Pomranka said. “She came back and went three periods with him.”

Inman scrapped with Elmore in a 21-12 loss that saw the lead see-saw back and forth early on. The two featherweights were tied 9-all going into the second period. The bout ended up being the only one that went the full six minutes between the Bobcats and Raiders.

Lochmondy scored a quick takedown and two-point near fall before ending his match in 37 seconds.

Lerner trailed 2-0 at the end of the first period and earned a pin in 3:56.

Bure tallied two takedowns and a three-point near fall before getting a fall in 1:48.

Brandywine was in the regional after winning an 11th straight district championship.
