Dale E. Leiter, 94, a longtime resident of Buchanan, Michigan, passed away on Saturday morning, Feb. 13, 2016, at home of natural causes. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at Swem Chapel. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Swem Chapel. His sons-in-law Phil Weldy and Thomas Hubbell will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home. Dale was born April 27, 1921, to the late Elmer and Nora (Donley) Leiter in Dayton, Michigan. He grew up on the farm and remained a “farmer at heart” all his life. Dale married the love of his life, Evelyn Briney, on Jan. 3, 1942, in Bryan, Ohio, enjoying 64 years of marriage until her passing Oct. 7, 2006. He was a member of the American Legion and served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps. Also, Dale was an avid sportsman, enjoying most sports, either participating in them or as a spectator. After 30 years of service, Dale retired from the Buchanan Post Office as a rural letter carrier in 1976. He spent his remaining years traveling and enjoying family.

Dale is survived by his three daughters, Cyndee (John) House, Dale (Phil) Weldy and Shelley (Thomas) Hubbell all of Buchanan; one son, Bruce (Linda) Leiter of Tucson, AZ; thirteen grandchildren, Tracie House, Wanda Schnapp, Kelli Whitaker, Bruce Leiter, Jr., Tania Leiter, Matthew Leiter, Chris Selk, Tabitha Wheat, Katrina Entwistle, Rachelle and Brianne Weldy, James Hubbell, and Megan Day; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; parents; three sisters Dorothy Depoy, Florence Leiter and Goldie Oklak; brothers John, Lloyd, Lester, Roy, Lewis and a twin brother Dean.
