The Village of Cassopolis had a force main break and spill approximately 30,000 gallons of raw sewage on to the ground behind the Cass County Jail.

The break happened around 11 a.m. Sunday and was discovered around 4 p.m. It was shut down around 5 p.m. and Cassopolis Department of Public Works worked through the night to repair the 12-inch PVC main.

Turner Excavation, Pump That Septic and The City of Dowagiac were called in to pump and haul the waste water from the upstream pump station downstream of the break.
