A recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Fred L. Mathews is shown with Kim MacGregor, Chamber president, as she presents the engraved brass plaque to him, which will be installed in his honor on this Beckwith Park bench. The Chamber adopted the bench in recognition of the lifelong contributions Dr. Mathews has made within Dowagiac, through his work with the Chamber, Southwestern Michigan College, the Downtown Development Authority, Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital and the many other organizations he has been affiliated with. In October, during the Chamber’s Annual Dinner Meeting & Celebration, Mathews was honored and presented with a certificate of ownership for the bench. The plaque is being installed this week by the City of Dowagiac.
