Shirley Ann Brennan, 77, of Niles, Michigan passed away on Feb. 7, 2016, at home after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of David Brennan, who survives.

Shirley was born in Niles, Michigan on April 11, 1938, to Muriel (Gephart) and Clair W. Mcgath.

She is survived by three children, Vickie Angelly of Farmville, Virginia, James Young of Tuscan, Arizona, and Margaret (Michael) Chilree of Ashford, Alabama. She is also survived by step-mother, Mildred (Churchill, Mcgath) Hillman of St. Joseph, Michigan and Sun City West, Arizona; half-sister, Bette J. (Russell) Otte; half-brother, James L. (Tammy) Mcgath of Buckeye, Arizona; maternal family: sister, Jennifer Ketcham of Hamlet, Indiana; four half-brothers, Fred Britton of Walkerton, Indiana, Ronald Britton, Donald (Gloria) Britton, James (Helen) Britton all of Niles, Michigan; step-children, Patti Lynn DeCastro, Jeffrey Brennen of Norfolk, Virginia, Michael Brennan of NC; aunt, Edna Mcgath of St. Joseph; six grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her step-mother’s siblings were an important part of her life and survive: Darwin (Gertraude) Churchill of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Frances Ruth Perry of White Pigeon, Michigan; lifetime friend, Charles Ray (Betty) Churchill of Portage, Michigan.

Shirley is preceded in death by half-brother in 2003, David C. Mcgath, step-mother’s sister, Esther King of Coldwater, Michigan.

Shirley was an avid reader, loved crafts and people. She was a member of Portage Road General Baptist Church.

Services held by the family will be at Portage Road General Baptist Church of Niles at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home of Buchanan. Online condolences may be made at www.hovenfunerals.com.
