Allegan wins 12th straight Wolverine Conference crown

ALLEGAN — For the 12th consecutive year, Allegan is the king of Wolverine Conference wrestling.

The Tiger easily defeated runner-up Sturgis to capture the league championship Saturday.

Allegan scored 201 points, while Sturgis finished with 152. Edwardsburg was a distant third (129) and Dowagiac fourth (100).

The Eddies did have a pair of conference champion as Michael Higley pinned Evan Griffin of Three Rivers in 1:10 for the 119-pound title, while Hunter Vargo decisioned Three Rivers’ Chris Morrill for the 125-pound crown.

Finishing second for Edwardsburg was Bo Parson at 189-pounds.

Dowagiac had one runner-up as Mason Hiler finished second at 152-pounds.

Allegan, which has not lost a Wolverine Conference dual meet since 1999, finished with five individual champions.

Edwardsburg will host the Division 2 Team District Wednesday, while Dowagiac will travel to Constantine for the Division 3 Team District Thursday.
