After a good start Wednesday against Bronson, Brandywine’s wrestling team found out why the Vikings are ranked No. 7 in Division 4.

Bronson erased a 17-9 deficit and beat Brandywine, 53-23, in BCS Athletic Conference action.

In a non-conference match on Wednesday, the Bobcats rolled past Lawrence, 66-12.

Brandywine got pins in the first two matches at 130 and 135 pounds from Kaci Lintz and Jesse Lochmondy. Kristian Hertsel’s 19-3 win at 152 pounds gave the Bobcats a 17-9 lead.

Bronson, which is unbeaten in duals, then won the next eight matches with four of those matches being pins. In the final match at 125 pounds, Brandywine’s Michael Kachur got a pin.

“The score didn’t show it but we were right in there,” Brandywine wrestling coach Rex Pomranka said about the Bronson match. “If some matches go our way the score is even a little closer. On the mat, I was pretty happy with how our kids did. It’s just the little things we have to correct. Off the mat, we just have to be focused and get into our matches. It’s a good wake-up call. It’s just another ranked team that we’ve wrestled this year. But we’re pleased as coaching staff at where we’re at. We just have to go back to the drawing board and get ready for this weekend.”

Brandywine won by pin or forfeit in 11 of the matches against Lawrence.

“The last couple of weeks have been rough for us with the competition we’ve faced,” Pomranka said. “It’s also the time of the year when you kind of get a little fatigued. Kids aren’t used to wrestling tough competition week in and week out.”
