Anna Garamszegi, 66, of Niles, Michigan died at 9:04 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at Lakeland Hospital-Niles following a brief illness.

She was born on April 21, 1949 in Budapest, Hungary to Ferenc and Anna (Rigo) Sofelvi, and was graduated from high school in Hungary. She came to the United States in 1988, and from Oscoda, Michigan to Niles in 2007.

Anna was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She enjoyed flower gardening, but her greatest interest was her family — devoting her life to caring for her late husband, daughter, and grandchildren.

She was first married to Sandor Varga. Later, on April 18, 1977, in Budapest she married Henrik Garamszegi with whom she celebrated the 35th anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on June 30, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Krisztina Varga of Niles; grandchildren, Anthony Varga, and twins Tiffany and Dominic Varga; and her siblings, Ferenc Sofelvi of Switzerland and Martha Sima of Hungary.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Garamszegi will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Timothy Cuny, O.S.A., visiting priest at Saint Mary’s. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
