Coming off a 0-3 road trip against Dowagiac, South Haven and Lakeshore, the Edwardsburg boys basketball team looked to get back in the win column against the visiting Vicksburg Bulldogs Friday night.

However, multiple missed shots and down the stretch and costly turnovers prohibited that from happening as the Eddies were on the losing end of  64-49 outcome.

Building on its win against Wolverine Conference South Division foe Dowagiac last Friday night, Vicksburg led from the start of the game on a quick 3-pointer.

From that point forward the closest the Eddies would get to gaining a lead was a 34-34 tie at the opening minutes of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs used a 10-0 run increased the lead to 17-5 with 40 seconds remaining, until two threes from Edwardsburg senior Dante Razzano trimmed the lead to 17-11.

Looking to cut into that deficit in the second quarter, Edwardsburg junior Adam Kozinski hit two 3-pointers that helped cut the lead to one.

But the Bulldogs were quick to regain their advantage, hitting shots from all over the floor and forcing Eddies mistakes.

Vicksburg led 34-29 at halftime.

Hoping for a change in the second half, the Eddies tied the game at 34-34 on a Shane Streb 3-pointer.

Unfortunately, the tie didn’t last long as Vicksburg went on a 12-0 run to take control of the contest.

Vicksburg would not squander the lead this time.

Razzano finished the game with 10 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks and a steal. Chase Tarwacki finished with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

“This game was a tale of two good teams,” Edwardsburg Coach Steve Wright said. “We couldn’t hit the open shot and they made us pay for it. Their point guard is pretty good.  The problem is that you can contain just him, because if you do then Vicksburg has other quality players on their team.

“This has been a tough stretch for us and the guys know that.”

That tough stretch continues as the Eddies host Sturgis Tuesday.
