Brandywine played about half a game according to Bobcats’ coach Josh Hood.

But that was good enough to earn a 59-35 BCS Athletic Conference Red Division victory against visiting Parchment Friday night.

However, according to Hood that will not be good enough when the state tournament Begins.

“Our issue now is learning how to play a full 32 minutes,” he said. “A lot of times we get a lead and we get in coast mode and we get sloppy. If we don’t start playing 32 minutes, we’re going to have some issues come March.”

Emily Erwin poured in 20 first half points, including six 3-pointers as the Bobcats grabbed a 43-16 halftime advantage.

But despite playing a subpar second half, the Bobcats maintained a comfortable double-digit lead throughout against a team Hood felt is one of the better ones in the BCS.

“Parchment is a very good program,” Hood said. “They have one of the best coaches in Kalamazoo and his daughter (Keeley Hinton) is one of the best players. For us to have that kind of a lead at halftime, I was really impressed with our kids and our energy and effort. They only dressed seven kids so one of the keys for us was to try and rotate players through as fast as we can. We were keeping fresh players on the floor and keeping the tempo where we wanted it.”

The Bobcats limited Hinton to a mere nine points.

With Erwin pouring in the points from the outside, Makenna Hartline was able to get loose in the paint and finished with 17 points.

“When Emily is hot like that, it really opens things up underneath for Makenna,” Hood said.
