A Benton Harbor man suspected of shooting at a fleeing vehicle outside Walter Ward Park in September is in custody.

Sentrelle Murray, 19, turned himself in to the Dowagiac Police Department without incident on Friday, according to authorities. Murray was arraigned Monday in Cass County Court, where he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felonious assault and felony possession of a firearm.

He is currently being held in Cass County Jail, on $50,000 cash or surety bond.

The charges against Murray stem from an incident that occurred on or around Sept. 18, at the park located on Thickstun Street.

According to police, Murray had gotten into a physical altercation with a Dowagiac man during daylight hours; when the other party attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle driven by another person, Murray pulled out a handgun and fired at the automobile.

While no one was harmed in the incident, police say that two children were passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Murray’s next appearance in court is scheduled for Jan. 14.
