The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the Bureau of Fire Services (BFS) today announced the opening of the 2016 consumer fireworks application period and low impact registration process.

All consumer fireworks applications and required plans must be submitted by midnight, April 1, 2016. Low impact registrations can be submitted at any time but must be completed at least 10 days prior to sales.

Applicants may notice some minor updates to the 2016 application process. The home page for fireworks continues to have Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that applicants will find informative. Also, the step-by-step tutorials are current and available to assist with the Introduction to Fireworks, Application process, Fire Safety Fee and Citation online payment process, and transfer requests.

The 2016 applicants will continue to have the ability to report their monthly sales and submit their safety fees online. However, applications will be denied for any applicants who have unpaid safety fees or are missing reports (all zero sales must be reported for the 2015 certificate fireworks season). Plans that are required to be submitted are due April 1, 2016.

When submitting documents for 2016 applications, applicants MUST submit all of the required documents at the time of application or the application will be denied. Also, each document submitted must include the 2016 Certificate number that was issued during the application process.

To start the login and application process, go to the Bureau of Fire Services website at http://www.michigan.gov/lara/0,4601,7-154-35299_42271—,00.html and click on the Fireworks link, then “Consumer Fireworks Application and Low Impact Fireworks Registration.”
