State Rep. Aaron Miller and former state Reps. Matt Lori and Rick Shaffer gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday to say goodbye to retiring staffer Susan Martin of Three Rivers, who served as legislative aide to all three lawmakers during the past 13 years.
Miller, R-Sturgis, commended Martin for the hard work she has done for the people of the 59th House District while working with the three state representatives, and presented her with a tribute signed by himself, Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph, U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph and Gov. Rick Snyder. She also was presented with a state seal signed by members of the House of Representatives.
“Susan Martin has been a driving force in the district for 13 years, listening to residents and their concerns and helping myself and Reps. Lori and Shaffer draft legislation so that we could address their concerns,” Miller said. “She has been an invaluable asset to this office and to the people of the 59th House District and we will miss the knowledge and personality that she brought to her position.”
Two large cakes marking her retirement were set up in the House cloakroom and shared with other members and staff during the House session.
Martin, a published novelist, will split time between Lansing and her home in Three Rivers in retirement.
