Registration open for New Troy’s annual 5K run, walk

NEW TROY, Mich. — Registration is officially open for the fourth annual Run to the Center of the World 5K Race & Walk, organized and hosted by Friends of New Troy.
Medals will be presented to first place in each age category, and the first-place overall winner will also have his or her name and time engraved in a brick to be permanently mounted in the community center’s garden.
Prizes will be awarded for largest team, longest distance traveled, and best costume.
A free breakfast will be provided, and the first 100 people to check in will receive a swag bag stuffed with goodies. In addition, every participant will receive a certificate of completion, indicating their time.
Those who register prior to Sept. 3 are guaranteed a free commemorative T-shirt on race day. Anyone registering after this date may have to wait for a shirt.
Early registration costs $20. After Sept. 3, registration is $25.
Various levels of sponsorship are available for area businesses and individuals.
The race begins and ends at the New Troy Community Center, 13372 California Road, New Troy, Michigan.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the community center, an all-volunteer facility that receives no tax support. The center provides area residents with a lending library complete with WiFi, computers, story hour and summer reading program. The facility also houses a playground, nature trail, outdoor classroom, demonstration rain garden, local history presentations, computer classes and much more.
