BUCHANAN, Mich. — The public is invited the Buchanan Art Center’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, which will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 29.
The idea of an art center in Buchanan was conceived more than a decade ago by Monroe Lemae, who brought together a group of interested people in December 2003. By Nov-ember 2004, they were incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation. In August 2005, the city of Buchanan leased the BAC the building it currently houses, and in 2010, after five proven years of sustained development, the city gave the BAC the building.
Located at 117 West Front St. in Buchanan, the center features three galleries with rotating exhibits of regional artists’ works, a program of education art classes for all ages and a gift shop offering works of local artists.
To celebrate 10 years of achievement, Buchanan Art Center leaders have planned a day-long event, which will include food, fun, class demonstrations and “try-its,” and an artist book-signing with artist Sandy Williams.
An “Artist’s Attic” Sale featuring new, or gently used artist supplies offered at reduced prices will also be offered.
All activities are free of charge, and schedule and activities are subject to change.
Current hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Buchanan Art Center is closed on Sundays.
More information, including a schedule of classes, can be obtained at the Center or by visiting the organization’s website at buchananartcenter.org.
