Lillian Eleanor Sallack Brown, age 90 years of Cassopolis, Michigan, died at 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at her home following an illness. She was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Niles, Michigan, to Joseph and Emilia (Izo) Sallack, and was a lifetime area resident.
Eleanor worked as the office secretary for the State Farm office in Niles for many years and a longtime member of the B.P.O. of Niles Elks Lodge #1322. She loved working with and being around people and had an impeccable memory. She was an avid Chicago and South Bend Cubs fan, and would listen to the games daily.
On Dec. 4, 1945, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Eleanor married Walter C. Brown, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to his death on June 13, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bernice Grocke, Patricia Peck and B. Peter Sallack and half-siblings, Irene Sallack, Joseph Sallack, Frank Sallack, Andrew “Hank” Sallack and Albert Sallack.
Services for Eleanor Brown will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Elk’s Rites performed at 6:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Eleanor may be made to the Old Rugged Cross Church in Pokagon, Michigan.
