What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

Introducing “Niles Reads! Top 100 Books”

To vote ask any staff member at the library for a ballot, email your five favorite books in each category to marketing@nileslibrary.net or vote online at www.nileslibrary.com.

 

Monday, July 27

• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Stories, Music, and Movement

Special Edition is a weekly series of programs designed to be particularly accessible and engaging for adults and children with special needs. Anyone is welcome.

• 1 p.m. – Mighty Masks

Every super hero needs a mask, so all are encouraged to come to Patti’s Place to make one. Registration is encouraged by calling (269) 683-8545 ext. 106 or stopping by the Youth Services Desk to register.

Tuesday, July 28

• 2 p.m. – Mighty Movies showing “Big Hero 6”

Every Tuesday this summer, the library will be showing a Mighty Movie for all kids and teens. Meet in Patti’s Place, for popcorn and a feature film.

• 6:30 p.m. – Olive Branch Book Club at The Brass Eye Cocktail Lounge, 205 N. 2nd St., Niles

It’s a book club at a bar. To register and pick up the book, “My Man Jeeves” by P.G. Wodehouse, come to the library’s Information Desk or call the library.

• 6:30 p.m. – Pajama Storytime

This storytime is for the entire family. It will feature stories, the color song, magic box, a song with instruments and a coloring sheet to take home. People are encouraged to wear their pajamas.

 

Wednesday, July 29

• Multiple times: Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 and 11 a.m., Storytime (3-5 years) at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 2 to 5 p.m. — Gaming Underground

 

Thursday, July 30

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach novices how to play. Other board games are also available.

• 3 to 7 p.m. — Household Appliances and Electronics Recycling

Do you have an old refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, or dehumidifier that you want to recycle? Efficiency United is teaming up with Green Earth Electronics Recycling to bring a truck to the Niles District Library parking lot where you can drop off these items for free. They’ll also be collecting electronics.

• 4 p.m. — Teen Superhero Training (ages 13-19)

 

Friday, July 31

• 10 a.m. to noon — Calligraphy 101

In this third and final session, participants will review what they learned in the first two sessions. Then they will go on to learn the best ways to use the calligraphy to make a pretty layout for a variety of documents including awards, letters and invitations.

• 11 a.m. to noon — Wild Safari

Both educational and entertaining, this multi-media presentation will combine real animals with the library’s latest comic book adventure for a presentation like no other. Kids of all ages are welcome.

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

• 2 to 5 p.m. — Gaming Underground

 

Saturday, Aug. 1

• 10 a.m. to noon — Friends Book Sale

All paperbacks are only 10 cents today.

• 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Time: Texture Time

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

• 1:30 p.m. — Treeclimbers Genealogy Group

Most genealogists find the most valuable research tool is other genealogists. Join to share your findings and support others in their own family quest. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. This month’s topic is Niles City Directories.
