Janet Lee (Ward Riddle) Keay, 64 of Union, Michigan died of complications from a sudden illness at 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, surrounded by loved ones at home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Although Janet had resided in Union since 2010, she spent the better part of her childhood growing up in LaPorte, Indiana and lived most of her adult life in Buchanan, Michigan before moving to Niles, Michigan in 1992. She worked at Simplicity Pattern in Niles for decades as well as many other area businesses after that. Janet married the love of her life William “Bill” Keay on June 3, 1989, in Buchanan. She was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing, traveled whenever she got the opportunity and was always one of the first to hit the dance floor when the music started! Janet was preceded in death by her father Lindle Ward, sister Phyllis Williams, daughter Meredith Carolyn, granddaughter Carley Hartman and Husband William Keay. Family was very important to her and she is survived by her cherished mother Bessie Ward of Buchanan, brothers Arnold (Judy) and Dale Ward, adoring daughters Teresa (Mike) Holden of Niles, Paula (Ron) McCoy in Goshen, Donna (Mark) Weiland residing in Bristol, step-children Traci (Chuck) Lewis, Anthony “Tony” (Gina) Wolfe, Michael Wolfe, Gayla Snow, Candi (Cory) Burgess, 27 admiring grandchildren, and 20 precious great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may visit at Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. eastern time on Saturday, July 25. Memorial services will immediately follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor John Fisher officiating. A private family burial will take place on a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan.
