Astros, Cubs pick up victories

The Astros scored seven runs in the third inning to defeat the Rangers 14-8 in Greater Niles Baseball League action at Thomas Stadium Tuesday.

In the other game, the Cubs edged the Nationals 5-4.

 

Astros 14, Rangers 8

A four-run first inning got the Astros off to a quick start. The Astros scored twice in the second and seven times in the third inning to account for their runs.

Garrick Bates and Harrison Devries both had a pair of hits for the Astros.

Terris Frick and Jordan Hess both had two hits for the Rangers.

 

Cubs 5, Nationals 4

Tyler Mehar had two hits for the Cubs, who scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to rally for the victory.

Sean Danner and Jakob Weist each had a double for the Nationals, who led 4-3 after the first inning.

Four teams from each division began playoff action Wednesday night.
