In what authorities are describing as an act of road rage, one man was arrested Saturday for brandishing a knife, driving aggressively and behaving erratically, according to Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood.

In a release distributed Sunday, Underwood said his office investigated the incident at around 1 p.m. July 11 after other drivers on the road in Vandalia reported the complainant’s erratic behavior.

With help of the public, deputies located the suspect on M-40 near Dutch Settlement Street in Cass County, where they made contact. The suspect was then arrested for operating while intoxicated, reckless driving and felony assault.

The suspect was lodged at the Cass County Jail. The name of the driver is being withheld pending arraignment on charges.

Sheriff Underwood said he and his staff would like to thank the citizens of Cass County for their continued vigilance and reporting such matters to authorities.
