Update: Boy in critical condition after found in pool

A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was pulled  unresponsive from a pool Thursday evening in Niles Township, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a child that was not breathing after being found in a pool around  7:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Stateline Road in Berrien County.

Police arrived and started CPR until SMCAS ambulance arrived on the scene. The sheriff’s department said Friday morning that the young boy is in critical condition at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Police identified the boy as Marcus Criglear.

The victim and his mother are from South Bend and were visiting a relative’s house when the child was found in the pool.

How the child got in the water remains unknown.

The incident remains under investigation.
