Howards Township wins Cal Ripken state title

The Howard Township 8U All-Stars won the Michigan Cal Ripken state championship in Clinton Township near Detroit Sunday. The team consists of Carson Rachaels, Rick Morrison, Brenden Olson, Logan Cox, Ty Johnson, Alex Cole, Dane Asmus, Peyton Gordon, Rowan Iwaniuk, Zach Henrich, Gavyan Luke and Lane Coquillard. DETROIT — The Howard Township 8U All-Stars defeated L’Anse Creuse 8-5 in the championship game of the Michigan State Tournament Saturday.

Brandywine defeated Alpena 12-0, Huron Valley 6-5 and Brandywine 9-2 to reach the title game.

Everyone contributed to the victories.

The team can now compete in the Cal Ripken Regional in Louisville, Kentucky July 22-26 for the first time as an 8U team if it can raise the funds for travel expenses.
