Jeanette Elanore Hines, 91, of Niles, Michigan and formerly of Berrien Springs, Michigan died at 6:35 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Woodland Terrace of Longmeadow in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on Dec. 31, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois to Eugene and Claira (Marquardt) Nehls. She was graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago and lived many years in Berrien Springs before moving to Niles in 1996.

Jeanette was a member of the Berrien Center Bible Church, and participated in many of the congregation’s activities. She enjoyed gardening – especially flowers – and quilting. She also enjoyed entertaining at home and cooking, including her traditional sweet rolls.

On Sept. 28, 1946, in Chicago she married Raymond Hines, Jr. with whom she celebrated the remarkable 59th anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on Dec. 16, 2005. She was also preceded in death by daughters Patricia McClain in 2009 and Jeanne Hanson in 2013; and a brother, Alfred “Bud” Nehls.

Surviving family includes her children, Janice (& James) Lotito of Chandler, Arizona, Becky (& William, DDS) Burks of Baldwin City, Kansas, and Ray (& Karen) Hines III, of Frankfort, Illinois; sons-in-law Mark McClain of Geneva, Illinois and Wayne Hanson of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Jeanette Hines is gathering privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan for burial. Contributions in memory of Jeanette may be made to the Berrien Center Bible Church. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
