Stop fracking in Cass County

Published 10:18 am Thursday, June 25, 2015

Across the state of Michigan, concerned citizens are circulating petitions to put fracking on the 2016 state ballot.  For information about fracking and our concern that “Pure Michigan” remain a truth for our state, go to www.letsbanfracking.org.

This petition is an initiative aimed against horizontal drilling, the use of millions of gallons of water (that is poisoned and cannot be reclaimed) and the disposal of all fracked water,  including from other states which is already being transported to Michigan.  This toxic water is being dumped in old wells and even retaining ponds, which will, of course, eventually leak.

A total of more than 300,000 signatures from registered Michigan voters will be needed to add this initiative to the 2016 ballot.  Petitions will be available to sign at the Cassopolis Sidewalk Days on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (table across from the Post Office), and prior to the next Ontwa Township Trustees’ meeting on Monday, July 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

If you have a concern for the environment, please don’t wait until we have earthquakes like Oklahoma or increasing radon levels like Pennsylvania.  Please sign the petition now.
